Portuguese Sweet Bread

After 2 desserts, I’m posting a bread. I know…though I’ve been cooking lately, they were mostly a repeat or nothing very exciting much about them or just throw whatever in one pot type of meal.
This is a sweet bread. If you’re a fan of Hawaiian bread, you’ll enjoy this bread. This is another bread recipe from Mr. Reinhart and could be found here at Food Network website.

This takes about 7 hours to make including baking time. The fermenting and proofing hours take a long long time but very tasty bread at the end. This is something to make in the morning then have it for dinner. Since it’s a sweet bread, I could eat this by itself no need for a spread.

The sponge on the left. I substituted lemon and orange extracts with zests.

While the dough doubled, it didn’t fill the pan fully and I did proof it a little longer than it says on the recipe. The bread will have dark mahogany color when done.

It’s actually a great tasting bread and great to make on a lazy Sunday. 🙂
